I purchased this color {Happy Birthday} compliments of Deborah Lippmann a few months ago and decided that today will be the day that I finally rock the glitter fingers look. In early Spring, I featured this pale pink strapless mermaid gown after seeing it at New York Bridal Market. Clearly, it was love at first sight and I had to feature it again, since it is my source of inspiration today. The pleated chiffon bodice, tissue organza blossom peplum with draped petal technique detailing and grosgrain multi-bow sash made me love it and and I still adore it today. This gown has character, volume and is simply freaking stunning!

There are only a few things that make my heart skip a beat and this gorgeous gown by Vera Wang does it every time. Isn't she lovely?

Yesterday, my styling team had the pleasure of working with Elizabeth Stajka of Elizabeth St John Bridal Collections at the Hillwood Estate, Museum and Gardens in Washington, D.C. The day was nothing short of amazing and we were so thrilled that the weather was on its best behavior {since there was a 80% chance of rain}. Elizabeth will be showcasing her 2012 Bridal Collection on Saturday, September 24, 2011 at Nuit de la mode.

At this event, you will also have the opportunity to examine the fashions on display in Hillwood's popular exhibition Wedding Belles: Bridal Fashions from the Marjorie Merriweather Post Family, 1874-1958. We of course will be there to style the looks for the fashion show and would love to see you there!

I pray for our country's safety, I ask that you bless the soldiers that guard our borders. I ask that you continue to have your hand on this nation, and that you provide the leaders with the wisdom to guide us in the right direction. Please revive your work in these days and make the saving beauty of Christ be seen and desired by all men. Guard us from internal war, from compromise, fear and confusion, because it is in his name we pray.

Lip gloss was definitely poppin' last night. . . .

I had the pleasure of celebrating with Danielle Lewis {Danielle Lewis Beauty} last night to commemorate the launch of her new Lustre Lip Gloss line. Danielle specializes in bridal, runway, editorial and fashion makeup and is the epitome of a professional. The event was hosted at Topaz Boutique in Baltimore, Maryland {which by the way, sells cute shoes and handbags}.

Upon arrival, I was immediately introduced to the signature cocktail coined “Smooch.” I loved it and had two {don’t judge me}. The ambiance was very nice and John Legend crooned in the background as we glossed up our lips and decided which colors we admired the most. I’m already in love with the collection because it does not feel like thick sticky glue and it survived my first sip of tea this morning.

Prior to my camera battery retiring for the evening, I was able to snap a few photos.

Friday's Signature Cocktail ● The Sparkling Princess

This is our favorite sparkling cocktail fit for a Princess. We will be serving these next week to friends as we celebrate the impending Royal Wedding.

Ingredients:

1 oz Blue Curacao liqueur
1 oz Patron Silver
1 oz Fresh lime juice
2 oz. Veuve Clicquot
Mint leaves
1 cherry

Instructions:

Mix all ingredients (except Champagne) in a shaker.
Shake vigorously and then finely strain into a chilled flute.
Float 2 oz. of bubbly on top and garnish with cherry and mint.

Friday's Beauty Moment ● Our Favorite Natural Home Remedies

Did you know that your elbows and knees are two of the most often neglected parts of the body? Dark and discolored patches are embarrassing and we are here to provide you with our favorite home remedies for improving the appearance of your elbows and knees:

• Cut a lemon in half and squeeze the juice on a cotton ball and dab gently on your knees. You can also place your elbows inside these lemon halves and leave for 15 minutes and then scrub gently before wiping with a warm cloth.
• Apply coconut oil to your elbows and knees one-hour prior to showering or bathing. Alternatively, you can make an oatmeal scrub and exfoliate your knees and elbows while enjoying a hot shower.
• Slice a cucumber {a natural bleaching agent} and rub on your knees and elbows and allow it to set for 30 minutes.
• Apply honey to the darkened skin approximately 20 minutes before taking a shower as this may help in moisturizing and softening the skin. Please invest in a quality skin moisturizer {I love Organic Shea Cream, Coconut Oil or Cocoa Butter}.

Since warm weather is in our immediate future and so is the temptation to rock minis and sleeves gowns, we must take the necessary time daily to nurture and promote radiant skin. It may take a while before these remedies start to take effect, but if you continue with the regiment as directed, you will see improvement in those affected areas.

Drink plenty of water to replenish and hydrate your skin and apply sunscreen before heading outdoors because sun exposure will cause the areas to become dark again. Take care of yourself and do not forget to treat yourself to something special this weekend!

This is a follow up to a previous Weddzilla blog post that we shared with our clients and friends last Monday regarding our favorite Spring scents. We've just added BVLGARI Mon Jasmin Noir {which was launched earlier this year} to the list of must-haves for our clients. We were introduced to this intoxicating fragrance while attending the Cosmetic Trend Show last Saturday at the Nordstrom located in the Towson Town Center Mall.

Not quite sure if it's the magnificent detailing in the dramatic ruffled bottom or the effort that was put into designing this cheap chic gown. When a colleague forwarded this photo to us, we immediately laughed and thought of one of our favorite gowns designed by Allure Bridal Couture {below}.

Ingredients:

2 oz Patron Silver

1 oz White Creme De Cacao

1 oz Double Cream

1/2 oz Chambord

White chocolate flakes for rimming

Fresh raspberries for garnish

Preparation:

In a cocktail shaker with ice, add Patron, White Creme De Cacao, Double Cream and Chambord

Shake for 15 seconds

Pour into a chilled cocktail glass, rimmed with white chocolate

Add a spear of fresh raspberries & serve

Repeat after me . . .
I (say your name), will no longer wear unflattering, dull, black shoes while executing my special events.
Yes, I do understand that my look must be polished, but that doesn't mean I need to look funeral drab.
As of today, I will incorporate color and character into my overall look and will encourage my staff to do the very same.
We are fun people by nature and our clothing should reflect this at all times.
Since shoes are undeniably an integral part of my attire and a true reflection of my personality/mood, I must let it shine!

See, that was painless, right? As an event planner, I personally believe that flats should have a place in our pre-existing wardrobe, especially on the day of a wedding or special event {since standing for extended periods of time is inevitable}. Flats are available now in every style, color and print - so promise you'll be daring in 2011. Yes, we know that flats aren't as fab as heels; however, they are not an option for myself or staff when it's time to produce magic on our client's special day. We typically opt for flats that are rich in colors/textures, made of lush materials, have comfy soles and support our arches.

Styling Tip:
Consider pairing tailored wide-legged pants with pointed-toe flats or pairing a skirt/dress with textured tights {no fishnet ladies while on the clock} with round-toe flats for a über stylish look. To add a bit of variety to those black ballet flats that you simply won't divorce, incorporate unique shoe clips to revamp your look for the day. In sum, we must all give our "paws"a break, so investing in a pair of comfortable flats is mandatory. As the saying goes, "look cute now, pay for it later."

Halloween Inspired Candy Apples

When I think of candy apples, I immediately reflect on Autumn flair, amusement parks, hot cider and Halloween. For the last two days, I've researched candy apple recipes and when I saw the beauty and details of these pumpkin inspired apples, I knew this recipe was for me. I'm a huge fan of fine chocolate, colorful sprinkles and yummy hard candies - but I may tweak the recipe just a bit to add a hint of caramel and peanuts {since those two elements were a MUST when feasting on candy apples as a young princess}.

What an amazing reason to connect with the family in the kitchen and I'll be sure to post photos of our finished product on next week's blog. So in honor of the upcoming ghoulish holiday - here is our favorite mouth-watering candy apple recipe.

Ingredients:
Halloween sprinkles
Small candies for decoration
8 craft sticks, twigs or cinnamon sticks
8 crisp apples
1 1/3 cups candy melts in orange and green
1 1/3 cups chocolate candy melts

Preparation:
Line a large cookie sheet with waxed paper.
Pour sprinkles and candy into small bowls.
Insert stick into stem ends of each apple.
Make sure sticks are tightly secured.
Place each color of candy melts in a separate microwave-safe, 2-cup measuring cup or bowl.
To melt, work with one cup of candy at a time and microwave on medium for 1 minute. Stir and then microwave in 15-second intervals until totally melted.
Holding apple by stick, dip it into melted candy, swirling until apple is fully coated.
While coating is still wet, dip apple into sprinkles or sprinkle small candies all over apple.
Place finished apple on prepared cookie sheet to set for at least 30 minutes or up to 1 day before serving.
Repeat with remaining apples and candy.

Since unique shoes are my weakness and I'm tempted to purchase both {but I'm in retail therapy - sigh} I just had to share them with you girls so that you can see how gorgeous they are.

I just finished reading What To Wear For The Rest of Your Life - Ageless Secrets of Style by Kim Johnson Gross and it was a great "self-confidence" booster. I thoroughly enjoyed reading this book in the evenings and was able to jot down a few key points that I plan to incorporate into my personal fashion chronicles. For example, I admired how Ms. Johnson-Gross provided insight on how to navigate everyday fashion trials and tribulations by just staying true to yourself. Further, she created a space within her closet where she could find solace for her special garments (i.e., comfy clothes, accessories and shoes) which enabled her to feel amazing at any given moment. After reading this book, I've learned how to organize my closet more efficiently by having a mixture of comfort clothes, power clothes and clothes that make me feel pretty. Getting dressed daily will become more inviting and easier as you begin to group your feel-good clothes together. You will start wearing them more frequently - but in different ways. {Like remixing vintage with contemporary, or sporty with formal}.

You still may be wondering what's a "Feel Good Closet," - so we've outlined the key elements and discovered that you do not need a lot of stuff in your closet, just the right stuff.

I am getting married on January 8, 2011, and I am currently experiencing Bacne {"Back Acne"} which really bothers me considering my wedding dress is strapless and my reception dinner dress plunges very low in the back.  I still have a few months to resolve this issue, but what do you think I should do to ensure that I feel comfortable on my wedding day?  I've tried so many over-the-counter products and nothing has worked yet. Any information that you can provide, would be greatly appreciated.

Hi Jamilah,

Congratulations on your impending nuptials and I'm sure both dresses are amazing!   Bacne or acne on the back is common for many and it is caused by producing excess oil or an underlying allergy condition (i.e., genetics, laundry detergent, body wash/soaps, irritation from clothing and etc).

Pimples will compromise the integrity of any strapless or plunging number - so it is imperative to keep the pimply area thoroughly clean by changing your towels and bed linens twice a week. Exfoliation is a great way to get rid of dead skin cells that tend to build up on the back, buttocks and back of the arms. Use a sugar scrub (milder than salt scrubs) in the shower on a weekly basis. Since your back is a difficult area to reach yourself, you may need to invest in a salon treatment such as Guinot Back Cathiodermie which improves skin texture or a benzoyl peroxide treatment which will revitalize and hopefully provide healthier skin in anticipation of your special day and going forward.

In the colder months, we typically use tea tree oil which is an amazing antibacterial agent.   In the case of bacne, you could add a few drops to a warm bath while relaxing and allow the water to cascade your back. Or, you could apply the tea tree oil directly to the acne prone area when occasional flare-ups occur and let it dry completely. We would advise to stay hydrated by drinking plenty of water, continue to eat well and please do NOT pick the pimples as it will leave dark marks and/or scarring.

I received a bottle of OPI's Pink Of Hearts Nail Lacquer today while attending a luncheon with friends and this soft pink polish was included in our swag bags. I've always been a huge fan of OPI and their colors never disappoint - whether "vamp" or "bridal," the sky is the limit with their fashion-forward nail lacquers.
